There’s this little drawing application called odosketch, it’s something like oekaki, and it’s really fun to draw with, even if it’s hard to control. No masking too, unfortunately… But it’s really cool, and then you can see how other people draw because it replays the whole thing when you click on it. Another pretty side effect is that they only have pastel colours so the end picture looks interesting~

Anyway, today’s sketch is a random sunset/sunrise scene with a random person sitting on a random rock. Don’t ask me why, I just felt like drawing that…

Hm, I don’t think I’ve ever drank really awesome bubble tea before. Is it Taiwan that has all the awesome bubble tea stores on the streets? I usually buy ice blends or the random desserts from Sweettalk anyway, I don’t like the taste of liquid and the pearls, the texture doesn’t gel too well to me.

But anyway, on to the random and rather old doodle (please to be ignoring the fake!crosshatching…):

Probably not even physically possible to hook pearls since they’re so… Chewy. But well. The bears were bears at first but an accident made them into pandas OTL

Ahh it seems like lately all I’m doing is studying for one test after another and rushing out assignment after assignment sigh. Hopefully after my exams I can slack a bit more, there’s lots of stuff I want to do~

Anyway, quick update on a bunch of series that I’ve had the chance to read lately, both anime and manga.

07-Ghost

Although I started reading it on a whim, I’m now completely addicted to this manga and I can’t wait for the next chapter to come out :D Lovely art (and loads of hot guys |D), very nice characterisation and the story, while feeling very ‘typical’ in some parts, has enough twists to keep me happy~ I think I especially love this manga because it’s such a nice blend between the shoujo parts: a bunch of good-looking guys that cover all the common personality types and very subtle subtext (not that I’m shipping any pairing in particular right now) and the shounen parts: nicely done fight scenes and the ‘hero goes on a journey and gets stronger’ bit.

I guess one of the few problems it has right now is that the pacing seems a little rushed to me. I think if a bit more time was spent on developing the characters and displaying emotions it might flow better, because right now it feels a bit like it’s just a whole bunch of events flying past you. Also, this has got to be one of the first mangas that have killed off awesome characters so early on. Damn it, I actually was nearly tearing even though I only knew him for a volume! _{But he was reincarnated so I guess not all is lost :D}

D.Gray-Man

I don’t actually follow this manga properly since I only read it for Kanda anyway so~ But I recently finished the thief arc (I forgot his name, sorry) and I also read through the 50 page special which was somewhat disappointing because I thought there would be more Kanda seeing as they were about to reveal some awesome sekrits in the chapter right before that but no. He only made an appearance in the last part, and onl for two pages or so sigh.

I’m happy that I wasn’t like a certain friend of mine who waited months for the special to come out because I think I would have been disappointed. Although it might have been because I haven’t read a lot of the manga, but I felt that the special was very random and just started spewing random information… I mean, sure, it advances the plot, but where’s the link to the previous chapter?

Also, the mangaka’s drawing style changed again, I think I preferred the old style (around book 10), not too fond of the proportions for the new one. She’s come a long way from book 1 though so good for her. Oh, and as of this update, D.Gray will no longer be published once a week but once a month, with the next chapter coming some time in November if I’m not wrong. I think this should be good for the mangaka, she seemed to have problems getting the chapters out in a week, so hopefully there’ll be more improvements to come. But I think I’ll just sit on it and wait for the chapters to accumulate before picking this up again.

Bakuman

Okay, for once, something Sarah recommended was pretty awesome. I am forced to admit that my first impressions were wrong and this is a great manga.

For those who don’t know, Bakuman is a manga about drawing manga. It gives off shounen vibes that rival those of Bleach and Naruto, except this time the ‘battles’ are all about whose manga is the most awesome, being put into hiatus because of illness etc. (And yes, they do level up, just not in the conventional sense ;D) Very nice and fresh idea, and it’s interesting to see how the industry works. I wonder if the author based any of the editors off people he knew in real life?

Bakemonogatari

Ah, the one and only anime that I’ve come into contact to recently. Unfortunately I don’t think I’ll be following it. The name ‘Bakemonogatari’ comes from a combination of ‘Bakemono’ and ‘Monogatari’, which basically means ‘Monster’ and ‘Story’ respectively. As the name suggests, it’s based on a bunch of supernatural stories.

I’ve only watched one episode so far, and to be honest, I only watched it because Kamiya Hiroshi voiced one of the characters. And while I thought that the visuals were absolutely stunning, that’s about all I can say about it. Oh, that and I loved the ending (it was composed by ryo!) but everything else was just… Odd. The animation fluctuated between being very pretty and psychadellic, which felt a little annoying when it did that for no apparent reason, the characters are (so far) really boring, and the pace is slow. Also, they like puns, and while things like ‘tsundere’ and ‘tsundora(tundra)’ are still okay, going between ‘kami(god)’ and ‘kani(crab)’ just gets tiresome after a while. So, probably not going to watch this unless I’m seriously bored, which probably won’t be anytime soon.

Suzumiya Haruhi Season 2

Okay so I haven’t actually watched this yet, because I heard about the Endless Eight loops, which people like me have absolutely no patience for. (I plan to sit through it eventually though.) I think they’ve finished that part, and I hope the next bit is epic or they are really going to encounter a lot of fanrage. But, you really have to hand it to them, no other anime could pull this off without incurring a crapload of wrath.

Haha so the USUK lj comm was having a community pchat which I think is still going on but I had to leave cos I have a ton of homework OTL But anyway, THE PCHAT WAS AWESOME <33 I think it gets more epic and fun if everyone’s there for a common purpose and have a common interest lol. Hopefully there’ll be more events like these in the future~

The fail!pirate England is mine OTL And after drawing that, I figured out how the mask command works which is just fail on so many counts.

The adorable pair in the corner is by crimson, and the awesome America is by marionette I think. The England is by yuzu. When they were done it looked like a mini-collab :D
